Press Releases
Okay, now you've finished the greatest site in the world. The sweat is still dripping from your brows and your fingers hurt from the typing. You have submitted your site to every search engine, award site and FFA list out there. You have done every trick that you can think of, including a nifty email signature, free stuff and a great email newsletter.
One step that's almost always overlooked is a press release. Huh? What is it any why do it?
A press release is a short description of your web site suitable for distribution to newspapers, magazines and columns (online and offline). It's purpose is to announce your site or product in such a way as to grab the attention of an editor or writer so that they will want to include the data within their publication.
Press releases are a special breed all to themselves. What you are doing is writing up your product (in this case a web site) to gain the interest of an someone so that they will write about it.
It's important to include enough data so that they will have everything that they need to have to write up the article or at least to get them interested. One page is just about all you need. Keep it to the point, and be sure to go into details on things that would interest their readership.
This is the key point. You are trying to gain the interest of the editor or author, so you must tell them why they should include your site. If you feed them the right information, they will do it. Why? Because newspapers and magazines, believe it or not, are always looking for something to publish. Give it to them in an understandable way and you will get published.
